Why We Chose the Winnebago Navion 24D

Why We Chose the Winnebago Navion 24D

We aren’t exaggerating… we looked at hundreds of RV’s during our purchasing journey. (You can read all about that experience here)

We had quickly identified a few must-haves for our home on wheels: a separate (no wet bath) shower, enough space for us to both work from and we wanted to stay under 30 feet for ease of driving and getting into cities and National Parks.

Enter the Winnebago Navion 24D. I’ll never forget the first time we stepped into this RV.  It sounds super cheesy, but it was totally love at first sight. Like, one of those a-ha light-bulb moments… I totally had that.  Up until that point, I hadn’t been able to really imagine us living full-time in anything we had toured. But I distinctly remember telling Howard that I loved it. I hadn’t said that about any RV we looked at. The finishes were incredibly sleek, there was so much space for us to eat and work from. It had that coveted separate shower and the oh-so-smart murphy bed. We might be a bit biased, but everything about the 2019 Winnebago Navion is pretty perfect for us. There is TONS of storage, both in overhead compartments and under the couch and dinette seats. We have a closet and an actual pantry for food. Plus the kitchen is HUGE. It really is a fantastic layout for two people full-timing. We never feel cramped and sometimes have to pinch ourselves that this is our house!

Here are our top 5 favorite things about the layout of the Winnebago Navion 24D:

  1. Murphy Bed – this was a really important feature for us since we would be living in a small space full-time. We didn’t need our bed taking up valuable space during the day. With the 24D layout, the bed comes down with the simple press of a button and goes back up during the day. Plus- the bed is extremely comfortable. Historically, I have had a really hard time sleeping comfortably in the apartments we’ve rented even with a king-size memory foam mattress. For whatever reason, this bed does the trick! We did add a super cheap (about $30) foam topper to it for a little extra cushion.
  2.  BIG Galley Kitchen – We both love to cook and were a little sad at the thought of losing the space that comes along with a full-sized kitchen inside an apartment or house. For a Class C motor home, this kitchen has an amazing amount of room both in counter space and storage drawers. We have a convection microwave, which, YES can cook a pizza! (This was really important for me) Plus, a large refrigerator and freezer that can run for days and use no propane. Win win!
  3. Shower – if you’ve read about our search for the perfect home on wheels, you know how important this was to me. The shower is a great size and neither one of us feels cramped. Someone who is 6’2 could easily and comfortable shower in this rig. We bought a new shower head to install, but haven’t put it on because the one that came standard has been great.
  4. Dedicated work/eating space – This floor plan was one of the only in a Class C that had two separate areas to work and eat from. We didn’t want to have to tear down our works pace every night to eat a meal. And if we need to spread out a little more during working hours, we have the room to do it. (Although, staring at your significant other across the table all day is kind of fun.)
  5. Storage – Guys. We have an actual closet to hang our clothes in. AND a pantry in the kitchen. I never thought we’d have either of those things, let alone both, when we embarked on this journey. There are huge storage bins under each dinette seat, overhead storage above the bed and dinette, and plenty of cabinets in the bathroom and kitchen area. We also use the loft bed as overflow storage for larger items. Outside, there is “basement storage” for things like your necessary RV equipment and other camping gear.

All the details of HOW we stay at places like this 😍⤵️

We’ve been @harvesthosts members for SIX years and it has been so fun to explore great local businesses all across North America. We’ve stayed at breweries, wineries, farms (who remembers the alpacas from a few weeks ago?) and museums across the US & Canada and it has made for some great memories.

Our recent stay at The Winery at Sunshine Ridge blew us away. 😯🫶 Waterfront, live music, beer AND wine, dog-friendly… it checked all the boxes. We had a great night’s sleep before continuing on our travels. 💤🚐💨

Harvest Hosts has multiple plan options to choose from. You can also upgrade from the Classic Plan offering winery, brewery, farm, and attraction host locations to add access to golf course hosts, community hosts, or access all 9000+ host locations!

Best overnight stay ever!? 😍🦙

During our time in Bowling Green, Kentucky, we put our @harvesthosts membership to good use with a stay at Alive N' Fuzzy Alpaca Farm!

We helped bring all the alpacas up to the barn for the evening and even got to take some on a walk. Just be careful... they spit! (ask Howard, he knows 🤣)

The farm is home to dozens of alpacas, gander geese, a retired mule, Peaches the dog, chickens and one llama! It was one of our favorite stays ever and very convenient to all the main attractions in Bowling Green! 🙌🥰🦙
